Nutrition in Emergencies short course
The Centre for Public Health Nutrition at the University of Westminster, London is running its short course, Nutrition in Emergencies, again in London, UK (1-5 September 2008).
The five-day course provides participants with technical knowledge and upto- date information regarding the delivery of nutritional support to those affected by humanitarian emergencies. The topics covered on the course include food security, malnutrition, supplementary and therapeutic feeding programmes, including Community Therapeutic Care, and other interventions.
Participants will explore types of malnutrition, their direct and underlying causes, how they are assessed, and common nutritional interventions. Participants are drawn from a wide range of backgrounds, although the course is particularly aimed at nutritionists, doctors, nurses and programme managers working in developing countries.
The fee for the course is £650. There are two full scholarships available - to qualify, applicants should be from a developing country, employed in the sector in an area prone to disaster.
